The numbers
  • TTM revenue $6.6bn, up 10.3% YoY; trailing EPS $3.47; shares at $86.92
  • At 11.2x forward P/E, SSNC trades closer to a regional bank than a fintech software platform generating $1.3bn in annual FCF
  • Q3 adjusted EPS and full-year 2026 revenue guidance land tomorrow; any guidance raise forces a rerate conversation

A 20% FCF Margin Priced Like a Bank, Not a Software Company

SS&C generates $1.3bn in annual free cash flow on $6.6bn in revenue, an FCF margin near 20%. That conversion rate belongs to a software platform with durable, contracted revenue from asset managers, fund administrators, and insurers. Yet the 11.2x forward P/E sits in the same neighbourhood as large-cap U.S. banks. The market is treating SSNC as a mature, low-growth roll-up. The revenue line, growing at 10.3% YoY, is pushing back on that read.

PE Deal Flow Is the Swing Factor Buried in the Intralinks Business

SS&C's Intralinks unit published research this week on rising execution costs in PE transactions. That timing is not accidental: Intralinks powers virtual data rooms for M&A deals, so its revenue tracks deal volume directly. If PE activity stayed muted through the summer, rate volatility being the obvious culprit, the alternatives and institutional services segments could apply pressure to the headline number. Intralinks is the part of the business that moves with market confidence, not just client retention, and it is the piece that most forecasters underweight.

Tomorrow's Guidance Update Is Worth More Than the EPS Print

SS&C's contract structure, long-term agreements with regulated financial institutions, means quarterly EPS rarely delivers a genuine shock. The lever that moves the stock is full-year 2026 revenue guidance. At that trailing growth rate, a guidance raise would force the market to rerate a business it is already underpricing at current multiples. A flat reiteration is probably baked in. A cut, however modest, confirms the discount and extends it through year-end.

The 11x Multiple Assumes Earnings Growth Stalls. It Hasn't.

Trailing EPS is $3.47. At that multiple, the market is either assuming earnings growth flatlines or applying a conglomerate discount to a business that has grown through acquisition. Either way, the gap between that multiple and SSNC's actual cash generation is the setup. The thesis breaks if tomorrow's Q3 adjusted EPS extrapolates materially below $3.47 annualized. That single figure is the cleanest signal available before the open. Everything else is noise until it prints.
